Today is April 16, 2012. Today is the 5th anniversary of the Virginia Tech massacre and today I call Virginia Tech my home. Virginia Tech is more then a school to me, it has taught me so much about life and about the amazing people that you can learn from if you allow them to step into your life. From the outside looking in April 16 is a sad day for everyone, but nothing compares to walking the campus where my 32 fellow hokies walked before they died.Today I find myself overcome with emotion, but not of sadness, of resilence, of pride. It amazes me that anyone would want to harm this beautiful place, each day as I walk the Drillfield I honor how lucky I am to call Tech my school, my home. No one can truly understand it until they experience it, the people that call Tech an unsafe place or a cursed university don’t understand. To those people I would say open your eyes. I have an imense pride in being a hokie and wearing maroon and orange. These people are my family and we will prevail. Everyday I will live for the 32 hokies that were taken from us. Appreciate life, it is a valuable gift. I am a hokie.
